BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - A six-member committee has reached a compromise on an unresolved measure in the Legislature that affects public employee benefits.

The panel agreed Monday to add one lawmaker from each party to the North Dakota Public Employees Retirement System board. The seven-member panel was criticized by some lawmakers when it awarded a contract that will make Sanford Health Plan the insurance carrier for thousands of public employees, including lawmakers, on July 1.

The session ended in April two days short of the maximum permitted under the state constitution. But the House and Senate were still at odds over policy changes in a budget bill that House budget writers inserted to ensure that public employees could keep the same health benefits and medical providers when their insurer changes.
