Results of the Fargo-Moorhead Flood Diversion Special assessment vote have been tallied and preliminary results show it overwhelmingly passed.
According to the Cass County Joint Water Resources Board, 79% of the votes returned were in favor of creation of the assessment district to finance the local share of the proposed $1.8 billion diversion project.
Most of the "yes" votes came from local goverments. 87% were from the city of Fargo and Cass County. 1% was from other local governments and 12% from private property owners.
Supporters say the assessment is a guarantee of repayment to assure bond investors, but actual repayment will be made through sales taxes levied by Cass County and Fargo.
