MANDAN, N.D. (AP) - A 15-year-old Mandan girl aiming to earn the highest honor offered to Girl Scouts will build an obstacle course for dogs this summer.
The city is footing the bill for up to $800 in supplies so Cara Weigel can bring the play area for pooches to Dog Town park. The Mandan High School sophomore plans to incorporate a cement culvert, a weave pull, various jumps and ramps in her obstacle course.
Weigel joined the Girl Scouts when she was in first grade. She's now a member of Troop 87109 of the Dakota Horizon Girl Scouts.
Weigel says participating in Girl Scouts has helped her make friends and gain important qualities, such as leadership and respect.
Her family owns a yellow Labrador retriever named Diamond.
