FARGO (KFGO-AM) - Fargo is getting closer to solving downtown parking issues. Next week, consultants hired by the city will reveal results of an extensive study which looked at seven potential parking ramp sites.
The feasibility study will help determine the best location for parking ramps with mixed uses. That would include street level commercial or residential development space. City Commissioner Mike Williams, who chairs the Fargo Parking Pommission, says such projects would likely be a public/private partnership. He says several developers have already expressed interest.
Williams says the city owns five of the locations. One includes the existing Civic Center Ramp that could see two additonal levels added.
More study is likely to narrow the list of locations and Wlliams says it's possible construction on one, possibly two parking ramps, could start later this year.
Consultants will present their findings to City Commissioners, the Parking Commission and Renaissance Zone Authority members Thursday, April 16. Two presentations to downtown stakeholders and the public are also planned Thursday, April 16 and Friday, April 17.
