FARGO (KFGO-AM) - If Fargo City Commissioner Dave Piepkorn has his way, the proposal for a circulator bus between downtown Fargo and downtown Moorhead will never happen.
Piepkorn says he's a downtown small business owner and has heard from other business owners who say its wrong to spend Fargo taxpayer dollars to pay for a shuttle bus that would benefit Moorhead businesses, especially when Moorhead doesn't seem excited about it.
Piepkorn says he's asked that the proposal be reconsidered at Monday's Fargo City Commission meeting. He says other options need to be explored. That could include using Fargodome parking which would connect to downtown by bus.
Fargo's request to use parking around the Moorhead Center Mall has turned into a political hot potato. Moorhead city leaders are wary of the plan saying it could end up hurting businesses. Fargo would pay for a bus to shuttle people to Fargo and back every 15 minutes. The plan is in response to the loss of parking space once city hall and floodwall construction begins.
Moorhead city leaders have been less than supportive of the plan but did agree to set up a subcommittee to discuss the idea. Fargo backers say the plan would bring more traffic to downtown Moorhead, boosting business.
