St. Paul, MN (MNN) -- A new bill that would allow for DNA collection from people arrested for violent felonies was introduced at the State Capitol Thursday.
Linda Walker spoke in support of the bill. Walker's daughter, Dru Sjodin, was abducted from a Grand Forks parking lot and murdered in 2003 says the legislation would save other families from having to, "endure the pain of losing one of their loved ones."
Twenty-eight states already allow DNA collections during felony arrests. Senator Carrie Ruud of Breezy Point says in addition to helping prevent crimes, more than 300 people have been exonerated using DNA.
