(CBS News) - Brian Williams won't be anchoring NBC News' nightly newscast "for the next several days," he wrote in a statement issued Saturday.
A day after the network launched an internal investigation into statements he made about his reporting in Iraq, Williams said, "It has become painfully apparent to me that I am presently too much a part of the news, due to my actions."
Williams recently apologized for falsely saying on the air that he was in a helicopter hit by a rocket-propelled grenade while in Iraq in 2003.
