FARGO (KFGO-AM) -- North Dakota Game and Fish Biologist Doug Leier doesn't get what the big deal is.
Dozens of jackrabbits living in south Fargo are getting local and national press. Some residents who live along 33rd Ave., west of 45th St., have been complaining about the large number of rabbits hanging out in their yards and in a nearby park.
"It's really not that uncommon," Leier says. "I've seen hares by the dozens in north Fargo, near NDSU, in West Fargo, all over town for the last 20 years since I've lived here. So, I think probably what really peaks some people's interest is such a lack of snow, they're a lot more easy to spot and easy to see when they're white and the background is brown, they stand out a lot."
Leier says the jackrabbits aren't any bigger than usual, maybe 5 pounds or so. He says they chew on bushes and shrubs and could be doing more damage this year because they aren't covered by snow.
