FARGO (KFGO-AM) - An investigation is under way into possible election-related crimes connected to last month's bond issue in the Maple Valley School District. Cass County Sheriff Paul Laney says while the votes were being canvassed, a "high variance" in the voting process was discovered in one of the district's precincts.

“Staff of the Maple Valley School District received information from various sources that inappropriate and potential illegal influence was being placed on arriving voters by election workers and by citizens who had a specific voting agenda” Laney said. “These citizens had placed themselves in a position to influence arriving voters and the allegations state that they were within 100 feet of the polling place while it was open for voting.”

Voters decided against spending $10 million dollars to build a new high school in Tower City and make renovations at another school. The bond issue failed by 10 votes.

Laney says his department’s report has been turned over to the ND Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
