DEVILS LAKE, ND (KFGO-AM) - Jeff Katzer, long time fishing guide on Devils Lake says there are major ice problems showing up on the prime winter fishing hole.
He says significant cracks, three feet wide in some places, have been discovered around pressure ridges, places where small cracks often show up. But Katzer says it's unlike anything they've ever seen there. The problem is considered so dangerous the winter season "roads" on the lake have been temporarily shut down. He says there's 24 inches of ice on the lake in most places but he warns those venturing out oto be cautious and stay away from pressure ridges.
Katzer, with Woodland Resort, says they have built ramps over the cracks in order to get anglers and staff , to-and-from ice houses safely. He says warmer weather later this week will only make the problem worse.
Katzer is a frequent guest on KFGO's Mike Mcfeely Show and the weekend Mike Mcfeely Outdoors show.
