Bowman, N.D. (AP) The residents of a North Dakota community are lending a hand to each other after a massive main break affected 200 homes and businesses.
An area of heavy and persistent groundwater has caused the failure of an older clay sewer main serving a 26-block area in Bowman. The main is now out of service and residents are under a water-use restriction.
People are using public showers and the commercial laundromat, and residents who were not affected by the main break have opened their homes for others.
Mayor Lyn James says workers on Monday will remove the groundwater that's causing the excavated soils to slump. But, James says, there's no timeline set for when the problem will be fully fixed.
