MOORHEAD, Minn. (KFGO-AM) - The Clay County Commission has temporarily shot down a proposal that would have made drastic changes to the county's tobacco policy.
The county’s public health department wants commissioners to ban tobacco use on the entire courthouse campus, including outdoor areas and in personal vehicles.
Clay County Tobacco Coordinator Keely Ihry calls the proposal a “healthy step forward". Commission Chairman Kevin Campbell and Commissioner Grant Weyland say the policy might not be impractical and tough to enforce.
Commissioners voted to establish a special committee to study some possible changes in the current policy. Smokers on county property are currently allowed to smoke outdoors in designated areas.
