FARGO (KFGO-AM) - Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem says there's no evidence that Republican Rep. Kevin Cramer violated state laws when he filmed a campaign commercial at the North Dakota Veterans' Cemetery.
Cramer removed the ad after a growing number of people complained that it was inappropriate. ND National Guard Adjutant General Dave Sprynczynatyk told Cramer it would jeopardize the cemetery's federal funding. The cemetery is operated by the National Guard.
“Of a violation of anything in the Century Code, as a criminal matter, I’m not aware of anything” Stenhejem said. “I think the concern that the adjutant general had was that (Cramer) could jeopardize federal funding that utilized and needed very much for operation of the cemetery.”
Cramer's opponent, Democrat George Sinner, said using the cemetery as a backdrop is "beyond reproach."
