MOORHEAD, Minn. (KFGO AM) -- A Moorhead woman accused of defrauding the government out of nearly $20,000 in food stamps and other benefits has made her first court appearance.
27-year-old Alyssha Colton faces a felony count of wrongfully obtaining assistance.
She could face up to ten years in prison and a $20,000 fine.
Authorities say Colton collected the payments while claiming child support as her only income.
A fraud investigation found her husband had been employed but she wasn't reporting it.
Her next court appearance is set for July 28th.
