STEVENS POINT, WI (KFGO-AM) -- Another stunt pilot with Fargo connections has been killed. Bill Cowden died Sunday while performing aerial acrobatics at an airshow in Stevens Point, Wi.
Cowden, who lived in Wisconsin, was a pilot for Delta Airlines, and a former F-16 pilot with the North Dakota Air National Guard. He retired in 2006 with a rank of Major. Cowden was also a frequent volunteer at the Fargo Air Museum.
In March, Casselton native Jim Maroney was killed when his plane crashed in Tennessee while enroute to a Florida airshow. Maroney was also a pilot for Delta, a former Air Guard pilot and frequent performer at the Fargo Airsho.
Cowden was flying a YAK-55, a russian single-seat aircraft. Witnesses said the plane spiraled down, looped up, then crashed into trees next to the airport.
The FAA and NTSB are investigating the cause.
