FARGO (KFGO-AM) Fargo's eyeing spots along Second Street near City Hall and south of Main Avenue for possible sandbag dikes as the Red River is expected to peak around 29 feet this Friday. Rivers in the Red River Valley have risen as a result of heavy rains.
City Administrator Pat Zavoral hopes the sandbags won't be needed as the river already appears to dropping upstream at Wahpeton. He says the city is ready, just in case. Fargo has thousands of filled sandbags stored at the landfill.
The sandbag dike would be small and limited to lowest points of the roadway, unlike the massive clay levee that's built along Second Street during major flooding.
