FARGO (KFGO-AM) After a year of discussion and study, the Fargodome Authority has recommended a proposed new convention center be built attached to the Dome.
The City Commission will make the final decision and commissioners have already said they favor a downtown location. Authority President Deb Mathern says construction and operating costs and access all favor a Fargdome site, but she doesn't want this to become an "us versus them" issue.
A consultant estimated the cost of an on-site addition would be $56 million. The study was unable to come with a cost estimate for a downtown location because a site has not been determined. City Commissioner Mike Williams says before any decision is made, they have to determine how to finance construction.
