ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KFGO) - A plea agreement has been reached in the criminal case against former Becker County Sheriff Tim Gordon.
Assistant Stearns County Attorney Kevin Voss says the deal calls for two felony charges of theft by swindle and making a false claim to be dropped. In exchange, Voss says Gordon has agreed to plead guilty to a gross misdemeanor charge of misconduct of a public official.
If the agreement is approved by a judge, Gordon would be placed on probation for two years, serve 10 days in jail or complete 80 hours of community service.
Gordon would also pay a $900 fine, more than $7800 in restitution and forfeit his peace officer's license for life.
Gordon was accused of selling the county a used boat, motor and trailer and claimed the equipment was new. The boat was purchased with a grant from the MInnesota DNR.
A sentencing hearing will be held May 6.
The Stearns County Attorney’s office prosecuted the case to avoid a conflict of interest for the Becker County Attorney’s office.
