ADA, MINN. (KFGO-AM) - Bond has been set at $1.5 million for a 19-year old man accused of shooting a Norman County deputy sheriff during a traffic stop. Steven Henderson was charged with first degree attempted murder of a police officer during a court appearance in Ada Thursday.

Henderson was also charged with 2 counts of receiving stolen property and a charge of bringing stolen goods into the state.

The shooting occurred near Perley Tuesday. Deputy Nathan Warner was struck two times but was wearing a bullet resistant vest and was not seriously injured.

According to court documents, Henderson and his brother had traveled from Oklahoma in a stolen pickup. Steven Henderson fired as many as 10 rounds at the deputy with a stolen .45 caliber pistol as his brother was being arrested on a warrant. The deputy returned fire with approximately the same number of shots, but missed. BCA agents say the stolen pickup had multiple bullet holes on the drivers side. Henderson fled after the shooting but was found several miles away at an abandoned farm.

He's is being held at the Northwest Regional Corrections Center in Crookston.
