CASSELTON, ND (KFGO-AM) The North Dakota Health Department says removal of more than 9,000 tons of soil contaminated by spilled crude from December's fiery oil train derailment near Casselton should be done this week. Most of the soil has been trucked to a landfill near St.Cloud. Some was also hauled to an industrial landfill near Sawyer,North Dakota.

Jane Kanges, an environmental scientist with the Health Department, says soil boring and ground water testing around the site is now underway. She says once those results are back from a lab, it will help determine how widespread and deep the contamination is.

The National Transportation Safety Board says the oil train that crashed and burned after colliding with a derailed train spilled 400,000 gallons of crude.
