FARGO (KFGO-AM) - Fargo Mayor Tim Mahoney wants to begin the process of hiring a new police chief.
Monday night, the city commission will act on a recommendation by Mahoney to set up a selection committee which will interview candidates and make a recommendation to city commissioners.
The committee will be made up of Commissioner Dave Piepkorn, Mahoney, two police officers, one a rank and file officer. The other will be a supervisor who will be nominated by other police officers, and two citizens whose names will be provided by city commissioners. Mahoney says he wants to begin the nationwide search after the 2016 budget hearings in mid-August.
Mahoney says Dave Todd has done an "excellent" job as interim chief since the departure of Keith Ternes last November. But the mayor says it's important to move forward to find a permanent replacement.
Todd tells KFGO News, he will be among the applicants.
