BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - North Dakota Superintendent of Public Instruction Kirsten Baesler says the first members of her new student cabinet are already providing valuable insight to her office.
Baesler says some cabinet members believe students would benefit from greater access to dual-credit and Advanced Placement classes. Other cabinet members have addressed the role of technology in the classroom.
Twenty students from public and private schools were selected this year to be part of the cabinet and will serve until June 2016. More than 80 students in grades 4 through 12 submitted an application.
Cabinet members have also spoken approvingly of state grants for early childhood education programs, saying that a family's financial circumstances should not be a barrier to parents who want pre-kindergarten instruction for their children.
