FARGO, ND (KFGO-AM) - Local law enforcement officials are raising concerns about the possibility of a confrontation between rival motorcycle gangs.
The "Sons of Silence" have been in the Fargo-Moorhead area for years, but the "Hell's Angels" put local gangs on notice that they also intend to move in to the area.
Cass County Sheriff's Detective Joe Gress wants to avoid a clash like what recently happened in Waco, Texas, where nine people died in a shootout between rival gang members.
“When groups like this clash, they clash” Gress said. “In these clubs, you’re dealing with a lot of machismo and what it really ends up turning into is who is the biggest kid in the sandbox? When one group has been here for several years, the sandbox is theirs; and when someone new comes into town with every intention of taking it over, that’s when the problems arise.”
Gress says motorcycle gangs often market themselves by conducting toy drives, fundraisers, or by feeding the homeless. He says there are currently about a dozen local members of the Sons of Silence, plus support clubs named “Silent Brotherhood and “Silent Thunder.”
