FARGO (KFGO-AM) - The Fargo Fire Department is expecting a new custom fire truck by the end of the year. Ordered in February at a cost of $885,000, it's called a quint, sometimes referred to as a Swiss Army Knife because it handles the functions of five fire units, including a ladder truck, rescue truck and a pumper.

Fire Chief Steve Dirksen says it will be assigned to one of the city's fastest growing area's, where there's a number of tall apartment buildings and the new 10-story Sanford Hospital. The quint will be staged at the Osgood fire station.

Dirksen says with the advanced capabilities, the quint fire trucks are being used by more fire departments. This is the first one for the Fargo fire fleet.
