BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - BNSF Railway has reopened a track in central North Dakota where an oil train derailed and caught fire, as cleanup from the accident continues.
BNSF Vice President Mike Trevino said the line through the town of Heimdal opened Friday morning after six derailed tank cars were removed and damaged track was repaired and inspected.
Trevino says the railway is confident the track is safe to operate.
The state Health Department says the railroad is making progress on cleaning up the oil that didn't burn in the Wednesday wreck.
The derailed cars were carrying about 180,000 gallons of Bakken crude.
State Environmental Health Chief Dave Glatt says a maximum of 60,000 gallons made it into soil and a nearby waterway. He says there are no concerns about contamination to drinking water.
