MARSHALL, Minn. (AP) - Three young men are charged after a Minnesota farm couple in their 70s was shot to death and their home burglarized and set on fire the next day.
The defendants, 20-year-old Derek Hexum of Balaton, 18-year-old Theodore Como of Marshall and 21-year-old Kyle Wesselink of Tyler, appeared in court Monday and remain jailed.
The Star Tribune reports Hexum and Como were each charged with second-degree murder, arson and armed burglary. Wesselink was charged with arson, burglary and receiving stolen property.
Seventy-five-year-old Jim Hively and his 71-year-old wife, Cathy, were found dead inside their home that was set on fire Thursday. Autopsies found the couple had been fatally shot.
According to the complaints, Como told investigators that Hexum shot the couple, but Hexum denied any involvement.
