ST. PAUL, Minn. (KFGO-AM) - The Minnesota Dept. of Natural Resources has backed away from its threat to file a lawsuit against the city of Detroit Lakes for approving a new hotel, restaurant and condominium complex near the lake.
In a letter to Detroit Lakes Mayor Matt Brenk, DNR Commissioner Tom Landwehr says he's disappointed in the city's position, but says he believes it's in the best interest to avoid litigation. Landwehr also says he wants to explore "constructive solutions" to the issue and avoid "future recurrences."
The DNR is concerned about the project's environmental impacts. Earlier this month, the Detroit Lakes City Council approved the nearly $12 million project over the objections of some residents.
