MOORHEAD (KFGO-AM) - The Moorhead City Council is finalizing a proposed agreement which will expand Cass County Vector Control operations in Moorhead.
The move is part of a two phase plan started last year when Vector Control began mosquito surveillance in Moorhead, checking traps and checking for West Nile virus. Originally, the transfer of all mosquito control operations, including city-wide spraying, technical coordination, and data management was planned for 2016 but the plan was accelerated.
Vector Control Director Ben Prather says discussions on such an agreement have been underway since 2003. He says it's a logical step to coordinate efforts between the two cities and surrounding communities.
The deal will cost Moorhead $98,000. The city will maintain decision making and will provide some equipment .
