FARGO, N.D. (KFGO-AM) -- If you spot a bald eagle's nest, North Dakota Game and Fish would like to hear from you.

Game and Fish Biologist Marty Egeland says bald eagles have been off the Endangered Species List since 2007 but aren't out of the woods yet.

"We really want to maintain that population at the level it is and want to make sure it's not sliding back down hill," Egeland says. "And probably some of the first indiciations of that would be to monitor nesting sights to make sure we have bald eagles in the area and that they continue to be reproductively successful."

Egeland has a few tips on how to indicate if the nest you spot is a bald eagle's.

"The biggest clue would be if there is a big bald eagle standing on it,"Egeland says. 'Other than that, if you do see one of these nests, they are quite large. Think of a mattress sized nest in a tree, they are four, five feet across sometimes."

Game and Fish asks observers not to disturb the nests and to stay a safe distance away. Disturbing the nest can cause the eagle to leave her eggs unattended.
