BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - A proposed ordinance would restrict mobile food vendors to just four streets in Bismarck's downtown area.
City Commissioner Josh Askvig says the proposed ordinance follows policy that is already in place, and would enable the city to enforce the rules if there's a complaint.
But DJ's Smokehouse BBQ owner Darrell Matthews says that he thinks the ordinance would be a hindrance. And he says it would go against the development and diversity that city officials say they want downtown.
The ordinance also would require mobile vendors to stay at least 100 feet away from restaurants, or 50 feet away if they are grilling. The ordinance wouldn't apply to street fairs.
The City Commission will take up the ordinance at its April 28 meeting.
