FARGO (KFGO-AM) - Two outspoken supporters of the University of North Dakota’s former "Fighting Sioux" nickname have turned to social media to expose what they say is the real truth behind the nickname's demise.
David and Eunice Davidson of Devils Lake believe tribal members and North Dakota residents were "duped" when the state settled a lawsuit it was defending against the NCAA. The NCAA sued the state to retire the nickname because it was considered “hostile and abusive.”
In a series of YouTube videos, the Davidson's say they believe there’s evidence in sealed court documents that tribal members were set-up to take the blame for the nickname’s retirement. They also claim that North Dakota tribal members want to preserve the "Fighting Sioux" nickname by "overwhelming majority."
David Davidson says the videos have attracted more than 128,000 views.
