WARROAD, MINN. (KFGO-AM) - More than 100 firefighters from local, state and federal agencies are battling a wildfire in the Beltrami Island State Forest in Northwestern Minnesota.
The Palsburg fire started south of Warroad Wednesday and so far has burned nearly 5,000 acres of land, much of it state owned pine forest. DNR spokesman Jeff Edmonds says the forecast calls for strong winds, switching directions throughout Friday, making it a "bad day" to fight a fire this size, which is only 30% contained.
The Minnesota National Guard is using Blackhawk helicopters to fight the blaze from the air.
