MOORHEAD (KFGO-AM) - Moorhead plan's for a sidewalk art project has hit a big snag. Most city council members like the project but don't support using $14,000 of public money to pay for it.
Council member Brenda Elmer says the timing is not right. She says there are too many other needs.
The City Council has delayed a vote on a resolution to approve the proposal. An arts advisory board has two weeks to come up with private funding sources or the project will likely be shelved. It was to start next month.
The project is modeled on a similar project in St. Paul which began in 2008. It would imprint art and poetry on concrete sidewalks along Main and Center Avenues, which are part of a street reconstruction project this summer.
