MOORHEAD, Minn. (KFGO-AM) -- Four Moorhead police officers have been disciplined for breaking department policy during a wild police chase last summer on the Village Green Public Golf Course.
The officers were chasing Kendall Feist, who was being tracked by North Dakota BCI agents in a helicopter. Speeds during the chase reached over 100 mph.
Police Chief Dave Ebinger says the officers' conduct placed the public's safety at risk.
"Our purpose is to protect people without putting them at risk," Ebinger said. "We didn't meet that goal in this incident. My surprise was that it happened in the first place. This is a pretty good operation, I found it that way, I didn't make it that way. And I am going to do what we need to do to maintain the level of professionalism that was in this department when I got here."
Ebinger says the department's pursuit policy will not change, but he says steps are being taken to make sure the policy is clearly communicated. The officers' punishments included written reprimands and unpaid suspensions of up to four days.
