GRAND FORKS (KNOX-AM) -- A large crowd stood outside the Empire Arts Center in Grand Forks Tuesday night in silent protest to Christian speaker Usama Dakdok. The protesters held cardboard signs with such sayings as “meet thy Muslim neighbor", "co-exist", and “love.”

Dakdok’s message is designed to highlight the dangers of Islam. Critics call it a message of hate.

The planned protest drew the attention of Mayor Mike Brown. "We have a strong history of supporting diversity and inclusion and ensuring that we are a welcoming community for all of our members, and as such I support the peaceful gathering of inter-faith members of our community who have been in contact with members of our police department, said Brown.

About two hundred people attended the event.
