FARGO (KFGO-AM) - The President of the North Dakota Farmers Union says the group plans to press Governor Dalrymple to veto the revised anti-corporate farm bill that's headed to his desk once the senate finishes final work on the legislation.
Mark Watne tells KFGO's Joel Heitkamp says the group's polling shows there's plenty of opposition to the bill that exempts hog and dairy operations from the 1932 anti-corporate farm law. He also says the state's largest farm organization hasn't ruled out a referral if the governor signs the legislation. He's encouraging those who oppose the changes to call the governor's office.
Watne says the bill is likely to harm small family operations. Supporters say it will spur the state's economy by reviving struggling hog and dairy operations. Dalrymple spokesman Jeff Zent says the governor hasn't seen the bill yet and won't make a decision until the legislation has been carefully reviewed.
