BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) Legislation is headed to Governor Jack Dalrymple's desk that will allow for more middle name options on marriage licenses.
Current state law allows residents just three names _ first, middle and last _ unless a court order is sought.
Newly married Fargo Republican Rep. Thomas Beadle is the primary sponsor of the bill that allows residents who get married to retain their middle name and former surname when taking their spouse's last name.
The House unanimously approved the measure 90-0 in January. The Senate voted 47-0 on Thursday to approve the measure and send it to the governor for his signature.
