BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) More than $200,000 in federal funds has been awarded to a North Dakota nonprofit that focuses on providing affordable housing to people across the state.
The funds granted to the group CommunityWorks North Dakota are meant to be used to help families that do not qualify for traditional lending programs, including down payment, closing costs, emergency repair assistance and affordable first and second mortgages.
U.S. Sen. Heidi Heitkamp says North Dakota families more than ever before are in need of assistance and flexible financing options to purchase affordable housing. She says rising housing costs as well as ``insurmountable student loan debt'' is making it ``exceedingly difficult'' for families to afford a house.
U.S. Sen. John Hoeven says the funds will also help create jobs in the state.
