FARGO, N.D. (KFGO-AM) The North Dakota Board of Higher Education spent several hours listening to college presidents criticize a House budget bill and then adjourned before deciding whether to take a stand on the legislation.
The board discussed a so-called position paper that would ask legislators to fund certain capital projects and allow the board to have the authority to set tuition and fees ``as has been done for most of the past 100 years.''
Some presidents told the board that the budget proposal would result in a high turnover of employees and substantial cuts to academic programs.
Board members had mixed feelings on a proposal to switch legal and audit services from the university system to other state agencies.
Thursday's meeting in Bismarck started at 2 p.m. and adjourned at 6:45.
