MOORHEAD (KFGO-AM) -- Several noise barriers may be going up in Moorhead, if residents living nearby approve.
Mn-DOT has mailed ballots to about 120 residents living near the proposed walls, asking if they want them. Spokesman Jerimiah Moerke says Mn-DOT is proposing 3 walls. Two of the walls would go up on 8th St. between 22nd and 24th Aves. The 3rd one is proposed along I-94, from approximately near Courtyard by Marriott, to M-State.
The proposed walls are part of the I-94/Hwy 75 reconstruction project. A study shows the walls would reduce traffic noise by at least 5 decibels.
The ballots are due March 9.
The walls will go up, unless a majority of the residents (by points) vote no. Each person receiving a ballot was assigned points based on distance from the highway and owner/renter status.
