AITKIN COUNTY, Minn. (KFGO-AM) - It was a scary ride for students on a school bus near Malmo, Minn. in Aitkin county Wednesday afternoon, after their driver suffered a medical condition.
An Aitkin county deputy spotted the bus from the Isle School District weaving back and forth on the roadway and traveling 35-40 miles-per-hour. The bus eventually stopped in the middle of the road, and as the deputy approached, it drove away.
Oncoming cars had to take evasive action to avoid hitting the bus. A Minnesota state trooper used stop sticks and the bus eventually came to a halt in a shallow ditch. None of the 11 children on board was hurt.
The bus driver, Scott Gilbertson of Isle, was taken to a local hospital. His condition is unknown.
It's estimated the bus traveled about five-and-a-half miles for 14 minutes.
