BISMARCK, N.D. (KFGO-AM) North Dakota wildlife officials say interest in darkhouse spearfishing this winter is at an all-time high.
State fisheries chief Greg Power says mild weather conditions coupled with very little snow have allowed unlimited lake access. However, Power is reminding anglers that they must register with the North Dakota Game and Fish Department before participating in the activity.
Darkhouse spearfishing season is underway on most state waters and runs through March 15. Legal fish are northern pike and nongame species.
Darkhouse spearing is allowed for all residents with a valid fishing license and for residents under age 16. Nonresidents may darkhouse spearfish in North Dakota if they're from states that offer the same privilege for North Dakota residents.
