BISMARCK, N.D. (KFGO-AM) — A nominating committee will wait until later this month to make recommendations on a successor to departed Board of Higher Education Chairwoman Kirsten Diederich.
Seven people applied for the position, though one is ineligible and one later withdrew from consideration. The committee was to forward three nominations to the governor on Wednesday, but says it will wait until the state Senate votes on the confirmation of earlier-appointed board member Kevin Melicher.
The committee plans to meet again on Feb. 16.
Diederich resigned last month after some lawmakers threatened to block her confirmation for a second term.
The Board of Higher Education oversees the state's 11 public colleges and universities. It has eight voting members.
