FARGO, N.D. (AP) - An overdose death from a powerful synthetic morphine has Grand Forks police wondering if other people who have been sickened by drugs in the past six months have taken the substance.
Police say the use of powdered fentanyl was likely a contributing factor in the death last weekend of 18-year-old Bailey Henke, of Grand Forks. Investigators are reviewing other overdose cases to see if others may have taken the substance.
Investigators say the drug is potent and unpredictable.
Fargo authorities say they received some reports in October about heroin being laced with fentanyl.
The investigation into overdoses comes just a few months after the last of 15 defendants was sentenced for providing the synthetic hallucinogens that led to the deaths of two Grand Forks-area teens.
