FARGO (KFGO-AM) - A legal battle between Canadian Pacific Railway and the city of Enderlin, ND has been settled.
The railroad challenged a city ordinance in federal court that banned trains from blocking railroad crossings for more than 10 minutes. Penalties included an automatic two-day jail sentence and a $1,000 fine.
Court documents say both parties agreed to drop the dispute after the Enderlin City Commission voted to repeal the ordinance.
Spokesman Andy Cummings says CP Rail is "pleased" with the agreement. Cummings says the company wants to "engage in a dialogue with city leaders about any rail operation issues they may have."
Enderlin mayor Deon Maasjo declined comment.
