LARIMORE, NORTH DAKOTA (KFGO-AM) -- A North Dakota Highway Patrol accident reconstruction team will try to figure out what caused Monday's deadly school bus/train crash in Larimore. Patrol Lt. Troy Hischer says work at the scene has wrapped up and the bus is in heated storage and will be inspected for mechanical problems.
The Highway Patrol does annual inspections of school buses, and Hischer says they have inspection records of that bus. He says the Patrol doesn't suspect the bus had any mechanical problems, but it will cover all the bases and do a complete investigation of its history, and the driver. Hischer says the children on the bus will be interviewed. He says the Patrol wants to find out if something happened on the bus that distracted the driver.
The bus driver and a 17-year old student were killed.
Other students were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Altru Hospital says ten people were brought to the Grand Forks hospital with various injuries. Three patients were transferred to other hospitals for additional care, six were admitted, and one was discharged.
