FERGUS FALLS, MINN. (KFGO-AM) - Otter Tail County authorities rescued two people from a partially submerged pickup that went through the ice on the northwest corner of Otter Tail Lake Friday night.
Robert Karst, 75, of Battle Lake called 911 to report he and a passenger were able to crawl onto the roof the truck. Sheriff's deputies say the vehicle broke through a thin layer of ice near a pressure ridge and ended up in a shallow pool of water that had formed near the ridge. Thicker ice under the pool of water kept the truck from plunging to the lake bottom.
Otter Tail Fire and Rescue was able to get the stranded men with an ATV and brought them to shore unharmed.
