BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - A community foundation in Bismarck-Mandan is seeking more time to match a potential $1 million grant from the Otto Bremer Foundation.
The foundation announced the grant in 2011 to help the BisMan Community Foundation build a permanent community endowment to benefit nonprofits and charities. The Otto Bremer Foundation will match donations up to $1 million.
The Bismarck Tribune reports that the grant period expires in mid-April, and the BisMan Community Foundation so far has been able to raise only about $230,000.
Director Christi Stonecipher says the community foundation could award $80,000 in grant money every year if the full $1 million is raised locally and matched by the Otto Bremer Foundation. The community foundation is asking for an extension on the April 12th deadline.
