Carrington, N.D. (AP) Foster County leaders say the county is facing a difficult situation after five officials including the sheriff resigned at the same time.
Foster County State's Attorney Paul Murphy says that despite a few rumors circulating in the community, no former county official is under investigation and no charges are pending against any of the five individuals.
The county's auditor, sheriff, deputy sheriff, clerk and deputy clerk resigned earlier this month. Murphy says the results of the November 4th election may have led to some of the resignations.
Auditor Teresa Risovi lost her re-election bid, though her term wasn't up until April. Election winner Casey Cables has agreed to assume the duties early.
Murphy says county officials are working hard to fill the open positions as soon as possible.
