Fargo, N.D. (AP) The North Dakota Board of Higher Education is looking at ways to add stability to the job of university system chancellor.
The position has been marked by turmoil in the last decade, with one chancellor who resigned and another who was replaced after clashes with some university presidents.
Consultant James McCormick told the board at a special meeting Tuesday in Bismarck that based upon his research, the next leader needs to have a "great relationship'' with the presidents in order to be successful.
Bismarck State College President Larry Skogen has served as interim chancellor for the last year. He replaced Hamid Shirvani, whose contract was bought out by the board over criticism of his leadership style. The board plans to start its search next month.
